Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook Elementary

Before events at the school
20 year old Adam Lanza kills his mother in her own house. He grabs three guns and goes to Sandy Hook Elementary school.
Inside the School
Classes were underway at the school when Adam shot his way inside.
Upon hearing shots, the school principle (Hochsprung), vice principle (Hammond), and psychologist (Sherloch) go out into the hall. Only Hammond survives.
Lanza moves toward two rooms of preschoolers and kindergartners.
At the end of the day, Lanza had killed 20 children and six adults before taking his own life.

What happened at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT can be described only as a senseless tragedy. Adam's mother was in the process of having Adam committed to a psychiatric facility when he went on his rampage. It is speculated that this is why he shot and killed 20 young children. Adam's mother had volunteered at Sandy Hook, and Adam believed that his mother loved these kids more than she loved him. Clearly he is mentally insane, but that is in no way an excuse for what he did. His misplaced emotions ruined the lives of everyone involved in this shooting, and it sickens me that we have to keep learning more and more about this man.

But since we apparently must learn everything we can about Lanza, lets start with some questions. Where did he get these guns? And what person is ignorant enough to sell a semi-automatic assault rifle and two pistols to a mentally unbalanced man? Did no one ask what he was using them for, and how many times are people going to believe the guns they just sold are for "hunting"? People will always find ways around gun regulations and clearly we cannot get rid of all the guns in America. The problem is not just guns. People have been killing people for centuries before guns were invented. Stricter regulations on guns may help a little, but it will not be all too effective. We cannot place armed guards in every school in America. However, teaching at least one faculty member at each school how to use a gun and keeping on hidden in the office could help prevent future school shootings.

I wish he hadn't killed himself. I wish he was still alive to tell authorities why he did what he did. That way we do not have to spend months guessing at what could have happened. And this way we would know that he is sitting in jail somewhere dealing with the consequences of his actions. Life for him may be over, but life for the parents of the slain children is still going on. Lanza is not paying for his actions. These parents, their friends, the entire community and perhaps even all of America are. Hopefully somewhere Lanza is getting what he deserves.

I am not including any pictures of Lanza because I do not want him to receive any more publicity nor do I want to even look at him. I am not including any pictures of the children or the teachers to honor their privacy.

  1. I agree. People put up pictures on the news about him and he will always be remembered. He doesn't deserve recognition. He deserved to rot in jail where no one knew his name.
